  Irby Cricket Club History
Irby Cricket Club was formed by a small band of enthusiasts in 1948 and played their first fixtures on a ground at Seaview Lane.
The club grew quickly and by 1950 had three teams with the Third XI playing all matches away. This situation was obviously unsatisfactory and flowing strenuous efforts, the club purchased a field in Mill Hill Road in 1968.This has remained the HQ ever since, being steadily improved and a second ground was added in 1994.
An application to join the Merseyside competition had been submitted annually without success and Irby eventually switched their attention to the Cheshire Association, gaining admission in 1975. This involved a great deal of travelling but the club appreciated that if they were to make progress they had to play competitive cricket at the highest level possible.

During the 1970s, membership continued to increase, culminating in four Saturday teams being fielded, together with an aspiring Junior team.

In 1976, Irby at last gained admission to the Merseyside Competition and the Championship was won six times - when Jeff Spence was a leading light - in 1983, 1984, 1986, 1987, 1988 and 1993. Runners up honours were achieved on six further occasions in 1981, 1982, 1989, 1990, 1991 and 1992. In addition the club won the Competitions Lever Cup six times in 1983, 1984, 1985, 1987, 1988 and 1997.

Irby moved briefly to the North Wales Cricket Competition for two seasons in 1994 & 1995, returning to the Merseyside Competition in 1996 before taking the opportunity to enter the Cheshire Pyramid in 2000 in an endeavour to attain an even better standard of cricket. The First XI managed to win the Meller Braggins League title in their first season under the captaincy of Mike Newman, thus gaining automatic promotion to the Cheshire County League for 2001.
With new skipper Paul Coles now at the helm, and having now established ourselves in the County League, we look forward to welcoming everyone to the club. Anyone who visits Mill Hill Road will be offered a warm Irby welcome, whether they are playing against any one of our four senior or junior teams.
